What is the 21 Day Fix?

7/9/14

I wanna explain a little about the 21 Day fix, before I start telling you about my journey.

The "fix" as people call it, is super easy and the creator of it-- Autumn Calabrese has literally done all the work for you. She provides you with 30 minute workouts for 7 days a week. Yes people, you have to workout for 7 days a week.. but do you really think it is that bad when she has shortened your daily workouts down to 30 minutes.. I think not! When you order the workout program it also comes with color coded containers, so that you can portion on your food to make sure that you aren't OVER eating and you aren't UNDER eating. PORTION CONTROL makes a big difference in seeing those results, whether you are eating too much or not enough. Oh and another awesome thing she has done for you, she gives you a booklet that gives you ideas for food choices. You can just open up that handy book, pick your foods to go into the containers and ta da it's done! There is really no guessing with this program. You eat TONS of food, workout for 30 minutes and get results.

So here's a little preview on what day 1 and 2 have been like.

DAY 1.. well I screwed up the meal planning and I didn't have my 3 servings of veggies. Oh well it was my first day, ya cant let it bring you down.

I was scared when I started this program because I am a hug coffee drinker, and wasn't sure if I was going to be able to have my cup of coffee every morning. I need my cup in the morning and I load it with cream and sugar. I was nervous about drinking my coffee black but thankfully with this awesome program Autumn suggested to put organic AGAVE in your coffee. And HOLY CRAP she was so right!!!!! I will not put cream and sugar in my coffee EVER again. I'm a coffee and AGAVE drinker now!

Here is what the past couple days have looked like. I just made one list of what my day has looked like because both days are so similar. I am just lazy and don't like to plan out a ton of different meals for everyday.

Breakfast:
Whole wheat toast (yellow)
Turkey bacon (red)
Strawberries (purple)

Snack:
Almonds (blue)
Strawberries (purple)
Cucumbers (green)

Dinner:
Chicken/Pork tenderloin (red)

When I am eating the foods, I get full pretty quickly and a half hour after I am done with my meal I am hungry again. I'm not sure if a lot of people are experiencing this.

I told myself that I wouldn't weigh myself until the first 7 days were completed but I couldn't help myself because I already feel lighter and I am down a pound!! Woot Woot!

DAYS 3,4, and 5 have been tough. I have had so many temptations. I am talking about PIZZA AND FUNNEL CAKES, 2 of my absolute FAVORITE things!!

It honestly feels so good to say no though, I couldn't be more proud of myself, I give into those things pretty easily. Bottom line, I love junk food.

Can I have pizza on the 21 Day Fix?! Yes I can, and most likely I will have it one day. But not today. And here's why.

I am working my butt off to finish this program. I want to finish it for myself and to show others they can also finish this program. I do not want one, little slice of pizza to give me cravings later that day or later in the upcoming weeks. I know that if I have junk food, I will crave junk food. And of course, Shakeology is definitely helping me out with those cravings. Honestly I've had one craving and that was a brownie with peanut butter frosting.
So the one day that I was tempted with the funnel cake. I knew that there would be funnel cakes, fries, burgers, etc. at the carnival. So I made sure that I had my Shakeology on the way there so I would not give in because when I'm hungry, I give in A LOT!

Since I was sooooo extremely good the past 4 days, I rewarded myself with a 21 day fix approved glass of wine. If I sit down and have a glass of wine with my mom I normally pour way to much into the glass and go back for seconds, this definitely showed that I need to work on that portion control. But hey at least I got to have a little glass of wine which is better than no glass at all!

“He who fails to plan is planning to fail"
-Winston Churchill
I've heard this quote about 100 times but I didn't really get it. I always think "I'm a planner and a very organized person, and I don't fail all time time. I don't need to plan, I'll be fine."
Now I truly understand what this quote means and why it is so important. Do you know why we give into those horrible foods?
Because we are hungry and vulnerable.

Everyday for the past 5 days, I HAVE prepped my meals and I haven't given in to those awful foods either. I know that I wont be able to pass up these foods if I don't prep. If you are like me and you give into these types of things, you need to start meal prepping, end of story.

Week one is complete.
Here's an overview:
I worked out for 30 minutes everyday, most days around 6 am.
I meal prepped everyday to make sure that I never went hungry.
I only ate the food that was in the booklet.
I didn't have any cheat meals or restaurant (21 day fix approved) meals.
One day, I decided to do 3 workouts just to try out the extra ones that came with Fix.
I drank a glass of wine one day while being on the Fix.
I haven't missed one day of drinking Shakeology.
I have lost 1 pound for far.

Week 2!!

I think week 2, so far, has been harder than week 1. I do not know why but I have been craving foods a little more than I did in week one. The cravings I have last for an hour and then they are gone but I would rather not have any at all.

Today is my half way mark with the program and I have to say I am feeling pretty good. I have not checked my measurements at all but I do think that I have lost some inches because I am feeling lighter.

Last night for dinner we went above and beyond our normal meals and had chicken wraps. Normally, we have just chicken/fish and a veggie. But the chicken wrap was delicious. Its hard to see that there is actually chicken on that wrap with all the other delicious things that were on it.
P.S. Last night was my first time having cheese since being on the fix. I never thought I would be able to go a week and a half without cheese.
